Drug Description: The Duragesic pain patches manufactured by Johnson & Johnson are meant to treat moderate to severe chronic pain. Fentanyl is a highly additive opiate that is 80 times more potent than morphine.

Drug Effect:

The patch is subject to leakage causing a drug over-dose of pain killer that can result in a serious of health issues including death. By July 2005, the FDA had over 120 reports of deaths related to Fentanyl. The FDA issued a warning about the high dangers of accidental over-dose of this pain medication.

Recall:

February 12, 2008, the pharmaceutical companies issued a voluntary recall of all lots of 25 microgram/hour Duragesic patches sold by PriCara in the United States and the 25 mch/hr patches sold by Sandoz. Manufactures acknowledge there could be a problem with leakage.
